Science-fiction writer who worked as an engineer at a power plant in Shanxi. His 三体 (The Three-Body Problem) won the 2015 Hugo Award, and his story 流浪地球 became the 2019 hit film The Wandering Earth.
His trilogy gave Chinese new buzzwords: 降维打击, 'a strike that flattens a dimension', is business slang for crushing a rival from a level it cannot reach, and 黑暗森林, 'dark forest', means a world where everyone hides and strikes first.
