1905–1995 · 政治家 politician

Communist Party leader who ran China's economic planning in the 1950s and was a senior voice of the reform era, arguing for a market kept inside the plan, his 鸟笼经济 or "birdcage economy".

His father's surname was 陈. Orphaned by the age of four, he was adopted by his mother's brother and took the uncle's surname 廖, with 陈云 as his given name: 廖陈云.
