The
六韬 is a military classic framed as the advice of
姜太公 to Kings Wen and Wu of Zhou, probably written in the Warring States period. Its six parts are named civil, martial, dragon, tiger, leopard and dog, and the Dragon Teaching covers the general's staff, choosing and appointing generals, and secret signals.
韬 first meant a bow case, hence 'hidden plans', as in
韬略.
