Tips

culture
A 黄历 gives each day's solar term and zodiac clashes and lists what the day is 宜 (good for) and 忌 (best avoided): weddings, moving house, opening a shop, funerals. Many families still check one before fixing a wedding date. It is also written 皇历, "imperial almanac", because the court once issued it every year.
usage
An old almanac, 老黄历 (or 老皇历), gives last year's lucky days, so it stands for rules that no longer apply: 别拿老黄历看问题, "don't judge things by outdated rules".
