Tips

history
Also called 阳虎. A household officer of the 季氏 (Ji clan), he took control of Lu around 505 BC and tried to win Confucius over. When Confucius avoided him, he sent him a pig as a gift, so that Confucius would have to call and give thanks; Confucius went when he knew Yang Huo was out, and met him on the road anyway. Confucius was said to look so much like him that people who had suffered under Yang Hu once surrounded Confucius by mistake.
usage
Book 17 opens with this story, 阳货欲见孔子, hence its name. It also holds 性相近也,习相远也 'by nature people are close; by practice they grow apart'.
