Tips

culture
生 here is the old word for a scholar, as in 书生: surname plus 生 was a respectful way to name a learned man, often a young one. Emperor Wen of Han, 汉文帝, sent Jia Yi away to 长沙, then called him back only to ask about spirits, which is the poem's complaint.
