Several phrases come from this poem: 泾渭分明 from 泾以渭浊 'the Jing looks muddy beside the Wei'; 新婚燕尔 'newlyweds in bliss', from the wife's bitter 宴尔新昏 'you make merry with your new bride'; and 谁谓荼苦 'who says the sowthistle is bitter?'
usage
The title comes from the first line, 习习谷风 'gently blows the east wind'. The Lesser Odes has a second poem with the same title and opening, another lament of someone cast aside once times turned good, so the two are cited as 《邶风·谷风》 and 《小雅·谷风》.
