毛泽东's 1910 farewell poem to his father reworks a quatrain long credited to 西乡隆盛: its first line, 男儿立志出乡关 "a man sets his will and leaves his home", became 孩儿立志出乡关. The quatrain is now usually traced to the Japanese monk Gesshō.
