Two famous lines made 玉壶 a poetic image. 王昌龄 ends a farewell poem by saying his heart is a piece of ice in a 玉壶, pure and unstained; the writer 冰心 took her pen name from that line. In 辛弃疾's Lantern Festival ci, 玉壶光转 'the jade pot's light turns' is usually read as the moon moving across the sky.
