An oval fruit with hot-pink skin and green-tipped scales. The soft flesh, white or deep magenta, is mildly sweet and full of tiny black seeds eaten with it; it is halved and eaten with a spoon or cut into cubes.
Literally 'fire-dragon-fruit' - named for the magenta scale-like skin that looks like a tiny dragon. The fruit grows on a climbing cactus and was introduced to East Asia from Central America via European traders.
