history
诸葛亮 wrote to his son in 《诫子书》: 非淡泊无以明志,非宁静无以致远 'without indifference to gain you cannot make your aims clear; without calm you cannot go far'. The two halves live on as the mottoes 淡泊明志 and 宁静致远, a fixture on scholars' scrolls.
mistakes
淡泊 describes an attitude, not a taste: food that is light or bland is 清淡. The word is also written 澹泊.
