Chinese monks such as
玄奘 travelled to India for Sanskrit scriptures and translated them, coining sound loans that are still everyday words:
佛 (Buddha),
菩萨 (bodhisattva),
涅槃 (nirvana) and
刹那 (an instant).
梵 itself comes from Brahmā; the language is also called
梵语.
