Tips

history
孟子 attacked him as selfish: Yang Zhu, he said, would not pull out a single hair even to benefit the whole world, the source of the idiom 一毛不拔. Mencius paired him with 墨子, whose 兼爱 'love for all' he thought just as wrong.
history
His own writings are lost. The 列子 chapter that bears his name was probably written centuries after him, and its praise of pleasure goes further than other sources on his teaching.
