Best known from the end of
秦观's ci 《
鹊桥仙》 about the Herd Boy and the Weaver Girl, who meet once a year:
两情若是久长时,
又岂在朝朝暮暮 "if love is to last, what need for every morning and evening together?". The phrase itself goes back to
宋玉's 《
高唐赋》, where the goddess of Mount Wu comes as clouds at dawn and rain at dusk.
