Tips

history
He took his title in 1892 from the River Kelvin, which flows past his Glasgow laboratory. The line 'nothing new left to discover in physics' is wrongly pinned on him; his real 1900 lecture spoke of clouds over physics, known in Chinese as the 两朵乌云 'two dark clouds'.
usage
Like the English kelvin, it takes no degree sign: 0 K is 零开尔文, 'zero kelvin', never 'zero degrees kelvin'. The apostrophe in Kāi'ěrwén marks where the syllable ěr begins.
