In 《世说新语》 the calligrapher Wang Xianzhi says that walking the road at Shanyin (山阴道上), the hills and streams come at you faster than you can take them in. The line gave Chinese the idiom 应接不暇.

阴 is the shady north side of a mountain, as 阳 is the sunny south side: the old county lay north of Mount Kuaiji (会稽山).
