Also called 成汤 or just 汤. His overthrow of 桀 and 周武王's overthrow of the Shang are the classic cases of a new house taking Heaven's mandate, and the 《周易》 line 汤武革命, "Tang and Wu changed the mandate", gave Chinese its word 革命 "revolution".
