Tips

history
In 6 BC he renamed himself 刘秀. Years later a prophecy said 'Liu Xiu will be emperor'. When a dinner guest asked if it meant him, a young man of the same name joked, 'How do you know it isn't me?' He became the first emperor of the Eastern Han.
mistakes
Don't misread 歆 'gods savour an offering' as 欣 'joy': they share only the 欠 side, not the sound part. Sounding alike was enough, though: with 刘欣 on the throne, he had to give up his name.
