Impromptu Lines is a poem Du Fu wrote late in life.
Tips
culture
杜甫 wrote it in 766 at 夔州 on the Yangtze. It opens 文章千古事,得失寸心知。 'Writing is a matter for a thousand ages; what it gains or misses, only the writer's own heart knows.' Writers still quote the couplet as a motto.
usage
偶题 'written on a whim' is a common title for old poems; 陆游, for example, has one called 晨起偶题 'Written on a Whim on Getting Up'.
