中华鲟 spend most of their lives in the sea and swim up the
长江 to spawn. Dams have cut them off from their old spawning grounds, and the species now survives largely thanks to captive breeding. Sturgeons have existed since the age of the dinosaurs, which is why this one is called a
活化石, a living fossil.
